The Hudgell family start our branch in Australia
|
On 29th January 1848 William Hudgell son of John Hudgell and Ann Pavett from Sawbridgeworth Hertfordshire left his home in Aveley Essex and sailed from Plymouth England on the 'William Stewart' to start a new life in Australia. He sailed from Plymouth on January 25th 1848, and arrived at Port Phillip Australia on 15th May 1848, he was stated as a 'bounty' emigrant and was listed as a labourer who could both read and write. These bounty emigrants were brought to Australia to help populate and work in the new colony. He could have added a couple of years on to his age as some of the dates don’t tally with his death certificate.
