Ann Bettis (Piggott) & Eliza Day (Bettis)
Eliza Bettis was born in 1858 in Theydon
Garnon, Essex. Her parents were James Bettis and Emma
Hudgell (nee Radley).
Eliza
was a domestic servant at the time of giving birth to her
second illegitimate son – Arthur in 1884 (her first being
James in1878.
Eliza married John Day and went on to
have 10 children. Ann Bettis (married name Piggott) seen
in this photo is the daughter of Eliza’s son Arthur through
his marriage with Fanny Kearns in 1907.

Frederick Bettis, born 18 May 1910, second

Frederick
Bettis worked as a signalman on the GER.
During
the 2nd World War he had reserved occupation and
spent most of the war in the Liverpool Street railway line
signal boxes. He finished his working life at the Tottenham
Hale signal box |

Bettis (nee Kearns) with her family at her side. From the

died 9 October 1959 in Whipps Cross Hospital, Leytonstone,
London

Lilly Bettis
was the first daughter of Arthur and Fanny Bettis and was born
in 1911. Lilly did not marry and she died in 2004. |

Ann Bettis, 2nd
daughter of Arthur and Fanny Bettis was born in 1912. She
married Albert Piggott on 15th June 1946. They went on
to have one son, John. John married Michelle and had 2
children, Jason and Sarah. |

|
Taken just a
few years ago, probably circa 2002 it shows Lilly Bettis and
Ann Piggott (nee Bettis) in their latter year. Lilly has now
passed away, but Ann is living in a Nursing Home in Essex
(2006) aged 93 |

in 1934 and went on to marry Dennis Smith and had 4 children,
Brian, Pauline, Gillian and Richard and these children went on
to have 11 grandchildren
Margaret was
born in 1938 and married Ronald Filer. They had 3 children,
David, Steven and Anita, who between them have 5 children
Rosemary was
born in 1947 and married David Giffen Rosemary and David had 2
children, Michael and Paul and now have 2 grand children |
