Robert William Hudgell was said to have been a print compositor in the 1881 census but this wasn't his obvious choice of career so in 1896 he went to the United States sailing from Southampton  arriving at Ellis Island on 21st March 1896

    HUDGELL, Rev. Robert 'William (Ch. of Eng.), is the young. s. of Joseph and Mary Hudgell, and was b. in London, Eng Apr 23, l859. Ed. at St. George's Parochial schs., Southwark, and at King's Coll., London, he entered as an elective student of King's College., Windsor, N. S., 1885 (L. S. T., 1887). Ordained to the priesthood) 1887, he has served as a rector at Stesiacke, N. S. , Derby, N.B., St. Jude's, St. John, N.B., and at present is Rector of St.Thomas's Ch., Methuen, Mass. He is the author of several pamphlets on ecclesiastical subjects. He m. 1887, Mary, eldest daughter of T. Harding Carter, J.P., Oxford, N.S. - Methuen, Mass., U.S.

Rev. R. W. Hudgell, D. D., aged 11 years.
Dr. Hudgell, will be remembered by many friends in Amherst and
throughout the County of Cumberland.
Mrs Hudgell is the daughter of the late Harding Carter
of Oxford and a sister of Mrs J. L. Allan of Amherst.
