 Law Report

 Summary of Cases

A solicitor failed in an action before Mr. Justice Avory to recover the balance of a bill of costs for professional services rendered in the case of the claim to the Waterford Peerage.

He sued a Mrs. Torr, who had taken an interest in the claim to the peerage which was made by a gardener named Tooth, and who had advertised for a solicitor.

His Lordship said that he was not satisfied that Mrs. Torr was anything more than an agent of the claimant and that the advertisement which the plaintiff had answered ought to have been sufficient to apprise a solicitor that he was embarking on a speculative business. (Adams v Torr)
